About
After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1996, Brent completed surgical fellowship training in Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery in 2004. In 2005 and 2006, Brent undertook additional post-fellowship training in Sydney (St Vincent’s Hospital), London (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Queen Square, and King’s College Hospital) and Adelaide (Royal Adelaide Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinder’s Medical Centre), focusing on complex ear, sinus and skull-base surgery. He returned to the Gold Coast and established public and private practice in 2007. Practice highlights include establishment of a cochlear implant program and the introduction of image guidance for complex sinus and skull base procedures to the Gold Coast.
Brent has completed a PhD at Griffith University on Olfactory Ensheathing Cells and Stem Cells in Nerve Repair and Regeneration, under the supervision of Professor Alan Mackay-Sim (Australian of the Year, 2017). This work involved developing alternative methods of peripheral nerve repair, and continues in conjunction with A/Prof James St John of the Menzies Health Institute, Griffith University. He is heavily involved in the Spinal Injury Project, also in conjunction with Prof James St John of the Menzies Health Institute, providing nasal tissue samples, acting as clinical lead and principal investigator, and also on the Advisory Board for this project. Brent is a senior lecturer at Bond and Griffith Universities, and is heavily involved in teaching, training, and examining ENT doctors in training.
He lives at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast with his wife Michelle and sons Jackson, Will and Nicholas.
